The Asian tsunami victims have caused an outflow of support from around the world, and in many cities there have been concerts to raise funds for the victims. One of the largest in Auckland was held on Saturday 22nd of January at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell and was organised by the Auckland Chinese Community. The well organised two and a half hour event attracted a very large and appreciative audience who were kept entertained by professional and amateur groups from a number of Asian community groups.

The first half included performances by the Rainbow Choir, Musicians, Song and Dance from Chinese and Taiwanese performers. The Philippines was also imvolved and was represented by Father Nilo Resco who performed two amazing numbers accompanied by Consuelo Del Castillo on the piano.

An auction of art works was held in the interval with all proceeds going to the fundraising effort.

The second half of the programme was a mix bag of performances from other cultures that included India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. It was led off by the Holy Cross Philippine Junior dancers in conjunction with the Philippine Impulse Dancers. The kids performed a medley of Philippine folk dance to the delight of the audience. They were the centre of attention by the Asian and local media who kept their camera flashing while the kids danced in their colourful traditional costumes.

The show concluded with all performers on stage singing “We are the World” and raised over $7,500.00 for the relief fund.
