Filipino lawyer holds property law seminar A free property law seminar was presented by Filipino lawyer Tara Fontanilla from law firm Ladbrooks Solicitors on Saturday, 12 March 2005 at the Good Shepherd Parish Hall in Balmoral.
In the 2-hour seminar, Ms Fontanilla covered the critical steps and gave out information with regards to purchasing a residential property, followed by a question and answer session with fellow lawyer and colleague John Appleby, who discussed and answered questions on trusts, wills and relationship property agreements.
This very informative seminar gave the mostly Filipino audience the chance to find out what exactly is the legal process involved in purchasing a property, things to look out for when in the process of making an offer to purchase, and ask questions about relationship property, wills and ownership of properties by way of a trust. The audience were also given an information pack which contained all that was covered in the seminar.
The seminar is the first in a series of legal seminars to be presented by Ms Fontanilla as a service to the Filipino community, especially to the new immigrants who are looking to purchase their first home in New Zealand. Its main purpose is for property buyers, especially first –time buyers to minimise their risk when thinking about and actually purchasing a property. The seminar was held in a very relaxed manner, encouraging people to interact with the speakers by asking questions.
People who attended the seminar were very appreciative of Ms. Fontanilla’s initiative and some have come out better informed. Some people who attended are already home owners and were interested on how they can protect their main asset. Ms Fontanilla and Mr. Appleby’s expertise and experience proved to be beneficial to those who attended.
