Another candidate with Pinoy connection

DF Issue No. 30 Sept 05

Ken Yee is the National Party candidate for Manukau East in this year's General Election.

Ken is standing for Manukau East because he wants to help to build Manukau into a safe and thriving world class city – a city where its people are proud to want to live, work and play. Ken is committed to representing the interests of Manukau East.

Ken will continue to advocate strongly for: cutting government waste and bureaucracy; strong families and safe communities; speaking honestly, not political correctness; a hand-up, not a hand-out; equal opportunity, not special preferences, competition, not state monopoly, choice not compulsion; an end to the Treaty grievance industry.

Manukau East needs a Manukau voice in Parliament and on the New Zealand stage - Ken says he is that voice!

Manuaku East is a large, diverse and multi-cultural electorate. It requires representation from a man who knows and works in the area, and can relate to its many cultures and communities. Ken can meet those needs.

For nearly 30 years as a practising lawyer, Ken has helped countless people solve their problems. As a Member of Parliament representing Manukau East, he will continue that service to the people and to the wider community.

Ken will serve his constituents well, and represent them to the best of his ability, just as he has done as a Manukau City Councillor representing Howick for the last six years.

And Ken understands Manukau East and New Zealand, having lived in Manukau since 1977 and having arrived in New Zealand as a two year old. Being of a migrant family, Ken knows the value of hard work, of reward for one’s individual effort and initiative, and of less government interference and compliance.

Ken’s marriage to Filipino-wife Cora, produced two children: Jacqueline (15) and Laurence (10), both of whom play a better game of mini golf or tennis than their dad.

Manukau East includes Papatoetoe (Hunters Corner to St. George Street), Otara, Flat Bush, Richmond Park and Chapel Park, Howick South / East Tamaki, Botany Downs and Highland Park (Cascades and Botany ends), Botany, Dannemora and Botany South.
